HMRC writing to lettings agents?

I read an article this week on HMRC catching up with people who are letting properties and not declaring it. Well the article intimated HMRC are writing to letting agents to get their client list. I met an agent on Tuesday and he had not been written to but knows that they can.

I would implore anyone who has not declared property income to HMRC to do so before they come after you. The penalties are a lot lower if you tell them and you are not on the back foot before you start. Many of the new clients I have taken on with up to 10 years undeclared income had little or no tax to pay when they came clean. I can’t guarantee that but I will try!!
